  • Reciprocity may exempt the qualifying party from taking the trade exam(s) required for licensure.
  • Reciprocity does NOT exempt licensure.
  • Reciprocity does NOT exempt the Louisiana Business and Law requirement.
  • Reciprocity does NOT apply to any classification with LSLBC where a “Credential” is required in lieu of a trade exam.

How to Request Reciprocity when Applying for a New License

  • Applicant will download and complete Section A of the Reciprocity Request form, found HERE.
  • Submit the Reciprocity Request form to the reciprocal Board who completes Section B.
  • Once you have received the completed form back from reciprocal board, applicant must upload the form to the online license application. Or the reciprocal board can send the form directly to the LSLBC.

How to Request Reciprocity when Adding a NEW Qualifying Party or Classification to an Existing License

  • Applicant will download and complete Section A of the Reciprocity Request form by clicking HERE.
  • Submit the Reciprocity Request form to the reciprocal Board who completes Section B.
  • To submit the completed Reciprocity Request form, you will need to complete the additional forms listed below and follow the submission instructions provided on the forms.
  • Complete & Submit “Adding a Classification” or “Adding a Qualifying Party” form and Fees.
    • Click HERE for the form to add a classification to your license.
    • Click HERE for the form to add a qualifying party to your license.
      • Include Payment for the required fees. (All fees are applicable even when requesting reciprocity.

After Submitting the Application (or forms) and Fees

Once we have processed the application and fees, the following will occur:

  1. In addition to any trade exam, if the Qualifying Party is representing Business and Law, an email will be sent with information on how to complete the required Louisiana Business and Law course.
  1. If the company/qualifier is eligible for reciprocity, your reciprocity request will be considered by the Board at the next scheduled Board Meeting. If approved by the Board, the Qualifying Party will NOT have to take the trade exam.
  2. If the reciprocity request is not approved by the board, the required trade exam must be taken with this board.
